Ninth Graders Go to Court

Since the beginning of January, six TMA ninth graders have spent their Monday evenings in the courtroom of Judge Robert Rigsby at the DC Superior Court.  These freshmen are participating in Judge Rigsby's Law Camp, a selective leadership program that focuses on introducing students to the criminal justice system and careers in the legal profession.  Throughout the spring semester, students will hear guest speakers and learn legal principles in preparation for a mock trial that will take place at the end of June.  Last week, NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Jealous presented about his experiences with community organizing and civil rights advocacy.
