Breaking Out of the Norm

TMA students took the opportunity to break out of their regular routine on Tuesday with a special Valentine’s Day afternoon of fun!  Students packed the cafeteria for the chance to dance to their favorite tunes, while others chose to study, work on constructing The Wiz  set, or challenge their peers in some friendly xBox competition.

A special thank you goes to Ms. Bobo and the SGA for organizing the event, to Mr. Van Siclen for his guest DJ skills, and to Ms. Dalton for helping to manage the music requests.  A good time was enjoyed by all!

Ninth Graders Go to Court

Since the beginning of January, six TMA ninth graders have spent their Monday evenings in the courtroom of Judge Robert Rigsby at the DC Superior Court.  These freshmen are participating in Judge Rigsby's Law Camp, a selective leadership program that focuses on introducing students to the criminal justice system and careers in the legal profession.  Throughout the spring semester, students will hear guest speakers and learn legal principles in preparation for a mock trial that will take place at the end of June.  Last week, NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Jealous presented about his experiences with community organizing and civil rights advocacy.
